A recent report from research firm IHS Screen Digest forecasts a 77.7% jump to nearly $4 billion this year from last years worldwide mobile app revenues. The report indicates that three years down the line, this figure could double to $8.3 billion. CEO Patrick Brown of On the Move Systems attributes this expansion of the mobile app market to wireless network advancements, falling mobile data usage costs and a continuous refinement of application usability. On the Move Systems (OMVS) is capitalizing on the mobile app revolution and is working with software firm Spud McCool Media Inc. (Spud Media) towards developing fun, cutting-edge mobile applications that will be designed to make full use of tablet and smartphone features. OMVS announced last week that it has started development on an innovative new online dating app.

Inasmuch as apps for portable devices, like the iPad, for example, may seem like luxury or even supurfluous features to some people, apps are in fact indispensable to others. This is because some of the best smartphone apps offer great convenience for important functions. For example, there are apps especially useful in facilitating one's work life. Some of the top apps for iPad, such as, Evernote, Expensify or Dragon Dictation, can really come in handy while away from the office by providing the means to capture and retain ideas or notes that may otherwise be fleeting and gone for good, or gone until too late.
Many of these current conveniences, of course, stem from the remarkable mind of Steve Jobs. Whether Apple is your brand or not, it goes without saying that the man's work is highly noteworthy, as evidenced by the myriad tributes in all forms of media to his remarkable ingenuity. There have been tributes since his passing, on Oct. 5, 2011, and there are some still to come. If for any reason none have come to your attention, I highly recommend looking into any bios, articles, or tributes to him, for insights into how significant aspects of our modern world-that we can so easily take for granted-came to be.

Top web design for the mobile web differs in certain ways from standard web design best practices. It goes beyond simply optimizing for mobile device viewing, although this is an important aspect of mobile web design. But the real opportunity in this space has more to do with users than their devices.
Mobility refers to the users of the device and a mobile app needs to address the different context of the mobile user experience. Mobile apps need to be convenient for use anywhere, and this is what makes them harder to design than standard applications. It requires developers to think harder about the requirements of their target market for mobile apps. As more users adopt smartphones for an increasing percentage of their web use, developers cannot afford to ignore the mobile web.
